JEWELLERY
We discourage the wearing of jewellery for safety reasons.
If earrings are to be worn they must be of the PLAIN STUD TYPE ONLY. School
cannot be responsible for the loss or damage to items of jewellery.
CLOTHING
FOR P.E. and GAMES
In the interests of safety and hygiene all children must change into suitable
clothing for P.E. and games. Children should wear navy blue shorts, white
T shirt (not football shirt) or navy blue leotard. They do movement / indoor
apparatus in bare feet unless medical reasons do not permit this. A letter
of explanation is required if your child needs to wear pumps or cannot access
P.E. lessons. Children should not wear jewellery on P.E, swimming and club
sport days. Newly pierced ears must be covered by tape supplied from home.
Long hair should be tied back. As our cloakrooms are too small to contain
large sports bags, the children will need a small bag or pump bag in which
to keep their clothing for P.E.
SWIMMING
The children in Years 3 and 4 have swimming lessons at the Kippax Leisure
Centre once a week for two terms. The children require suitable swimming costumes,
towel and a bag large enough to put all their clothing in.
HEALTH
AND HYGIENE
Due to the obvious dangers of children bringing medicines to school it is
necessary to take any medicines to the school office. We will ask you to sign
a form which gives your permission for the Head Teacher to administer the
course of medication. In the case of Asthma sufferers or children requiring
regular medication, arrangements must be made with the Headteacher.
If your child has had
a bump during the day and he / she has been seen by a qualified first aider
a letter will be sent home to inform you.
Children / carers, health
professionals and teachers work in partnership to enable children to reach
their full potential. Referrals are made to health professionals and other
agencies as appropriate following consultation with parents / carers. The
school nurse is part of a team of professionals working with all school age
children. Every school also has a named school doctor who is trained in how
health problems may affect a child's ability to learn.
Selective medicals will
be held soon after entry into school. Please tell us about any physical problems
or illnesses that your child may have so that we can help. The school may
also request a medical examination if the staff have concerns about a child.
The school nurse visits
regularly and weighs and measures the children and tests their vision.
Hearing is tested in Year 1.
Dental checks are also
carried out in school.
Treatment will never be
carried out without the parents' consent. Please contact school at any time
if you are worried about the health of your child.
Periodically, we have
outbreaks of headlice. It is the parents' responsibility to check children's
hair regularly.
SENDING
MONEY INTO SCHOOL
We would ask parents to ensure that any money sent into school is in a sealed
envelope and is clearly marked with the child's name and class and details
of the contents. We have envelopes available from the school office.
CHANGE
OF CONTACT DETAILS
Notification of change of address should be given to the administration assistant
in the school office and to the class teacher so that we are able to contact
you immediately in an emergency.
LUNCHTIMES
Your child may have a school meal cooked on the premises, bring a packed lunch
or go home for a meal. Dinner money for school meals should be sent on Mondays
in a named envelope or purse.
PLAYTIMES
There is a fifteen-minute playtime during the morning and afternoon for Keystage
1 children. Children in Keystage 2 have a fifteen-minute break in the morning
and a ten-minute break in the afternoon.
TUCK
SHOP
To promote healthy eating and attitudes within school a range of fruit can
be bought from our tuck shop in the hall during morning playtime only. We
also sell healthy Fairtrade products and Fruity Bytes. The tuck shop is organised
and run by children in Year 6. All profit that is made is used to buy something
for school of the children's choice. Pupils in KS 1 receive 'free fruit' to
eat during their afternoon break.
DRINKS
We encourage our children to bring a SMALL, NAMED, PLASTIC BOTTLE so that
the children can have a regular supply of drinking water throughout the school
day. Bottles are available to buy at the school office. The children quickly
become dehydrated through working in warm classrooms and by running around
at playtimes and lunchtimes. If children bring sandwiches for lunch, they
will need an extra drink to have with their food.
CLASS
COUNCILS AND SCHOOL COUNCIL
Each class has a class council which meets regularly to enable pupils to discuss
issues in school. An elected representative from each class council meet with
other elected members to form the pupil school council. The school council
meets with Senior Management to discuss concerns and issues in school. Election
takes place biannually.
SECURITY
With protection of the children in mind whilst acknowledging that the safety
of the children is paramount, the following measures have been implemented.
Children
and parents arriving late must sign in at the school office.
Our
main entrance has the added security of an intercom and a coded lock.
Our
children have been instructed not to play near areas where they can talk to
anyone on the other side of the fence even if they know them. May we ask for
your co-operation in this matter.
May
we remind you that if a child enters / leaves the premises during school hours
they must be signed
in / out of the school office.
In
the interests of safety and hygiene, please do not bring your dog onto the
premises at any time.
With approximately 200
children in our care, it is our responsibility to ensure their safety and
welfare. We ask for your co-operation in these matters.
ABSENCES
AND HOLIDAYS
Government legislation requires reasons for absence to be recorded in the
attendance registers, therefore, if your child is absent from school a telephone
call on the morning of absence would be appreciated followed by a letter of
explanation. The Education Welfare officer visits school on a monthly basis
to monitor pupil attendance throughout the whole school.
ILLNESS
A child who is acutely ill for whatever reason should not be at school.
If a child is obviously
unwell on arrival or becomes ill during the school day, the parent or
guardian will be contacted to take the child home and you will be encouraged
to see your GP.
It is the responsibility
of the parent / guardian to let the school know if the child is ill and
the reason for absence on the first morning of absence.
If the child is believed
to be suffering from an infectious disease, the school can offer advice
or you can seek advice from the Health Protection Unit.
On some occasions it is
necessary for a child to leave the school premises for a dental or hospital
appointment. A note should be sent with the child to the class teacher and
arrangements made to collect them from school. For safety reasons children
are not allowed to set off on their own to meet parents.
When collecting or returning
your child to school from a hospital or another appointment, please report
to the school office first, so that we can keep an up to date record of which
children are in school. Children arriving late for school should also report
to the office so that they can be added to the official registers.
LEAVING
THE SCHOOL PREMISES
On no account may a child leave the school premises during school hours unless:
He / she is going home
for lunch
A written request
is sent to school, the child is collected from the school office and is
signed out.
Any child not collected
at the end of the school day will be taken to the School Office and will be
looked after until they are collected. If possible we would appreciate a phone
call to let us know the reason why you are going to be late and an approximate
collection time.
IT
IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU INFORM YOUR CHILD'S CLASS TEACHER IF SOMEONE ELSE IS
COLLECTING YOUR CHILD.
HOLIDAYS
DURING TERM TIME
The school dates are published a year in advance and we therefore do not see
any reason why parents should be taking children out of school during term
time. If a family feels as though absence during term time is unavoidable,
an application form must be filled and sent to the Headteacher for approval.
The attendance target for each child is 95%.
WHENEVER
POSSIBLE WE HOPE YOU WILL ARRANGE FAMILY HOLIDAYS DURING THE SCHOOL HOLIDAY
PERIODS.
If you need to take a
holiday we would appreciate it if holidays during term time, particularly
during September and during SATs periods, could be avoided if at all possible.
With the Headteachers permission, you may take ten schooldays as a holiday
and this is regarded as authorised absence. However this is not an annual
right and should not be regarded as an entitlement. More than ten days is
regarded as unauthorised absence.
