OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS

You are your child's key educator. At Kippax Greenfield we value and appreciate the important role that our partnership has on the achieving the potential within each child and developing a positive attitude towards school and learning. Kippax Greenfield Primary School
WORKING WITH PARENTS aims to:

Develop a strong commitment to extending and strengthening home / school partnerships.

Bring home and school together in an effective partnership, which has as its first priority the needs of the children.

Create a positive welcoming atmosphere within the school to show how this partnership is valued.

Create a climate of mutual trust and respect where opinions and feelings can be expressed honestly and where there is a genuine desire to listen and to understand from all parties.

Create a community in which each member is shown to be valued and feels able to use individual skills, knowledge and expertise for the good of the whole.

Build on the 'family' atmosphere of the school, thus giving a feeling of 'belonging' and making this truly " Our school."

FROGs
All parents are automatically members of the FROGs (Friends and Relatives of Greenfield School). The school is very lucky to have a very active and supportive parent group. We are very grateful to them for enriching the children's experiences by their generous gifts and for the many social activities which they arrange for the children, the parents and the community. These events raise money that will enable the FROGs to provide equipment that might not be otherwise available to the school.

We welcome new members to support our FROGs group. Please enquire at the school office and ask for more details.

PARENTAL HELP IN SCHOOL
We encourage those parents, who wish to or are able, to work alongside us both in classrooms and on educational visits. This help is greatly appreciated. All parents who wish to work in school will need to undergo an enhanced criminal disclosure check in line with our Child Protection Policy.

PARENTAL INTERVIEWS
There are consultation evenings in the Autumn and Spring Term when parents are formally invited into school twice a year to discuss their child's progress with the class teacher. In the Autumn Term parents are invited into school to have a good look around your child's classroom, look at their work and to meet the teacher. Parent consultation in the Spring Term is a more formal occasion where the children accompanied by their parents meet the teacher to discuss progress and future targets.

However, class teachers are willing to discuss the progress of any child at a mutually convenient time.

Parents wishing to see the Headteacher are asked to make an appointment via the school office.

It is the policy of the school to contact parents if there is a concern about the academic progress or the behaviour of a child.

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
Parents receive updates on events and policies via the school BLOG.

A very informative and exciting newsletter is sent out on the first Friday at the beginning of each half term. It is intended to inform parents what is happening in school, social events, an opportunity to share ideas and also to help in forward planning future activities and events.

Pupil targets are sent home at least termly in order that you will be able to support your child's learning at home.

We provide opportunities to attend curriculum evenings and workshops where aspects of the school curriculum are discussed and you get the chance to undertake some simple activities with your child.

You are invited to attend annual events such as the Harvest Festival and the Easter Servce which are held in St. Mary's Church, the Christmas Performances, and Sports Day.

Parents will receive an annual written report about their child's progress in June.

HOME SCHOOL AGREEMENT
We have produced a home school agreement. All parents will receive a copy of this agreement and the pupil, parents and Headteacher will sign it. We firmly believe in the benefits of home and school working together.

HOMEWORK POLICY
'Homework' refers to any work or activities which pupils are asked to do outside lesson time, either on their own or with parents or carers. Homework in the primary years should not be such that it prevents children from participating in extra curricular activities such as sport, music, dance and drama which are in themselves, an enrichment and extension of the children's work in school. Much of the homework is accessible via the Class Blog.

Our objectives are :

To strengthen communication between home and school

To develop good habits and attitudes to work

To have a shared responsibility for our children's learning

To encourage independence

To assist with time management

To consolidate and reinforce skills and understanding, particularly in literacy and Numeracy.

To encourage pupils as they get older to develop the confidence and self-discipline needed to study on their own.

CHARGING
We charge only the cost of coaches plus entrance/other fees for day trips out of school. Trips cannot take place without sufficient parental voluntary contributions.

Parents are asked to make contributions towards the following;
·instrumental music tuition
·clubs/activities run by instructors who are not on the staff of the school
·day trips
·residential visits
·visits by theatre companies, music groups etc to the school

Please note that unlike some schools we do not ask for a yearly or termly contribution to school funds. Instead, we ask that parents who would like to support the school, support the FROGs fundraising events.
